I installed some new components yesterday, new motherboard, graphics card, processor and RAM. Everything is working fine except for the graphics card, which doesn't display in the PCIE x16 slot despite the fan spinning. It works fine in the PCIE x4 slot. I've tried updating the BIOS three times, right up to the latest BETA release, but it still won't display in the x16 slot. I've disabled the onboard graphics and tried an ATi 4870 in the x16 slot and it displays fine.

The setup is:

CPU - Intel i5 3570k
Motherboard - Gigabyte Z77 DS3H
RAM - Crucial Ballistix 2x4GB 1600MHz
Graphics - XFX 2GB 7870 Core Edition
PSU - Corsair 520W HX Modular

Any suggestions? I'm beginning to think the motherboard and card just don't want to work together.

if you tried an ATi 4879 in the x16 slot and that worked, but the new graphics card you got didn't, doesn't that mean that your new one is fautly?

If it was faulty though, would it work in the x4 slot?

I certainly think I've narrowed it down to either the card being faulty or the motherboard not liking the card. It's looking like a return job.

to be honnest i don't even know what a x4 slot is lol, i thought it was all x16 pci-e slots, i don't have a clue but ye it just seems odd that one card works in the slot an another doesn't, if a card works in the slot then one would think the motherboard slot or w/e is fine, and that it's the card that doesn't work properly, idk goodluck xD

A x4 slot just runs slower than a x16 slot. The card won't be performing to its full potential, so obviously I want it running in the x16 slot if possible.

Given that I've tried everything I (and others) can think of, I think it's time to return the card.

I returned the card to Scan and they tested it in two systems finding no faults. I now have the card in my possession once more and it still won't display. I'm completely at a loss.

Any ideas people?
