No Hard Disk space after format

Just formatted my computer, files all deleted.

But the Hard Disk shows that the used space is identical to before the format.

Tried to put my files back in but the system says there is not enough space.

take the HDD out and temporarily install it in a different pc. Don't bother mounting it, just plug in the sata cables from PSU and sata from motherboard, you might need to give up sata plugs from optical disk drive for a couple minutes if you don't have any more cords. then boot up the PC and try formatting it again (in the other PC)

First thing is we need more information.
What operating system are you running.
Is this your primary hard drive or a secondary?
How did you format drive? If it's a 3rd party tool, it might not have worked properly or it might require a reboot.

A drive can not simply format itself, you need to format it from a different drive OR boot windows CD select the disk and click Utilities or Options and you should be able to format it, remember you either do it off a cd or different hard drive, a drive can not format itself

Not to be a dick, but can't you just hit start -> right click on comptuer ->manage -> Disk Management -> right click on a drive (non OS drive) and click format?

You can do that but example: You booted C drive, the OS is in C drive you cant format C drive within C drive But you can format for example F drive from within C drive.

Those instructions are very simple and if that works then that's great but that's not your problem, your problem is that you Hard drive has already been formatted and its still full of data. am I wrong?

Yeah after I did that, I expected it to be mostly empty besides my OS, everything is gone but the memory is not there

no, because you need an Operating system to do that, boot the original windows disc and follow the prompts, but first are you running windows xp, vista, 7, 8?

Right click you C drive and click properties, then click disk clean up, then do clean up system files, go through and see if there are any large files and clean them up, its all managed and safe so you cant delete anything that you shouldnt
