Solution
The Windows 7 disk isn't recognizing the disk controller with its built in drivers. You'll need to see if there's Win7 compatible drivers for the disk controller. When you're doing the Win7 install, and it shows no drives, you should get an option to load a driver for the disk controller, you'd have to point it to the drivers you downloaded and hope it works.

win 7 doesn't have the driver it needs to run the HDD probably because it is designed for windows 8. You need to get the HDD driver from the support website for you laptop. Unzip or extract the *.exe and load it onto a thumb drive. Then when you run your win 7 disk you will need browse around the thumb drive looking for the driver. Good luck it is a serious pain. I have only done it once or twice.

Good luck that is like 90% the battle. Also there is no such thing as an x550c there is a ca and a cc, but no c. Sorry that isn't super helpful. Realistically from this conversation you probably have two options. 1 install windows 8.1 or 2 find a seasoned desktop support professionals help. This would be tough for a seasoned tech who can lay his hands on the pc.

Windows 8 is in Gpt format and Windows 7 is NTFS. You will need to format the hdd, cant just install over the top of Windows 8 as Windows 7 would have noidea what Gpt is and wont detect hdd.

Even *if* it's GPT, which it may or may not be, it will still show the partitions/drives there and allow you to clear them. His problem is that Windows 7 doesn't have the drivers for his disk controller, thus it cannot see the drives at all. GPT or no GPT.
