No HDMI Output on PS3 to 1080i TV

Hello everyone,

I bought a FAT 60 GB PS3 on Amazon and I can't get it to output anything on HDMI. AV works fine. My TV is a CRT Sony KD-30XS955 with 1080i resolution (I know it's ancient but the picture quality is just gorgeous). The PS3 detects that there is an HDMI cable but when I choose that connection, I get a black screen with no sound. The input label on the TV goes away as if I'm about to get video but it never goes through. The funny thing is that when this happens, no other devices will work on the TV through HDMI. I have to unplug it and then turn it back on for other devices (Xbox or laptop) to display.

I tried holding down the power button on the PS3 to let it auto-detect but got nothing. Could there be some kind of HDCP issue going on? Also, if I use a component cable for 1080i, will there be a difference between that and HDMI on the same resolution?

Thanks in advance.

Solution
Try this:
1: Turn off the console
2: Once it's on, turn on the console and hold on to the power button, you'll hear the first beep like usual, wait until you hear a second beep
This resets your video settings on the system
Component cable should look similar. I used one to treat my computer as a secondary monitor for desktop and gaming as an experiment and text was crisp.

The HDMI exact issue is uncertain, however it obviously has some issue which is doubtful you can fix, unless it's a bad HDMI cable.

I will be trying out a component cable. The HDMI cable is good. My Xbox 360 and laptop both work fine with it. The only odd thing is that when I try outputting HDMI through the PS3, anything else I try to hook up through it afterwards gives me a black screen as well. So, something must be happening to the TV's HDMI circuitry when the PS3 tries to give it a signal. I know that analog output for Blu-ray Disc movies was disabled a few years back so that may have something to do with it. You would think that two devices made by the same company would play nice but that is sadly not the case.
