I've seen many messages about this but no solution seems to work.

i just did a fresh install of windows 7, but can't get on the internet.

my device manager says i am missing:

base system device (PCI bus 13, device 0, function 1)
network controller (PCI Bus 3, device 0, function 0)
unknown device (on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller)

i have another computer to download drivers from, whig i have been doing, but to no avail. Anybody know where i can download these devices?

the computer that can't get connected to my router is:

lenovo t410
windows 7 home premium
intel core i5

Solution
Connect the PC to the router via Cable, and Right Click -> Disable the WiFi network connection.
Give me a SS of that.

Also, Give me a SS of the Device Manager, with the Network Devices expanded.

If you can talk via Skype or Team Speak, hit me with a private message, as this is going too slow.

Try to contact your internet provider and ask for assistance if possible.
Is the WiFi router purchased by you, or provided by the before-mentioned internet provider?

apologies for the slowness, i can chat on Skype but i live in china and the time difference doesn't help. It's late here, i just woke up for a second and saw your message. will go back to bed soon. if this problem persists, i will send a PM tomorrow evening, my time.

in the meantime, here are two screen shots.

1) SS PC to the router, via cable. I only connected the PC to the router, but the router is not connected to the wall...i'm assuming you might have wanted the router connected to the wall for this, but i don't have an extra cable to do that. in any case, here is an image of just the PC to router, with the wireless network disabled.

2) SS of device manager,

thanks for your patience

Ok, try to get another network cable, because you need the router connected to the socket, and the PC to the router.
Check your Router box if you don`t have an extra cable. If not, try to get one from a friend or buy a short one, as it should be very cheap.

Sorry to bother you again -

but I still can't get the wireless router to work.

I changed the password, and reset the router. I re-enabled the wireless network connection, but my computer can't connect.

any suggestions?

sorry for the late response.
i get many error messages, i took screenshots of 3.
1) In the task bar, lower right hand corner of screen: the wifi bars have a yellow dot over them.
I right click and pick "open network and sharing center."
here is the screenshot of the error message i see:

2) When i double click the red X between MICHAEL PC and Internet, which you see in sceenshot 1, it tells me to "plug an ethernet cable into this computer"
I skip this step.
I go to "change adapter settings."
this is what i see:

3)From sceenshot 2, I right click the Wireless Network Connection icon, and hit connect.
It brings up a set of wireless routers in range.
i click on mine: MICHAEL-PC_Network.
Hit connect.
Without asking me for a password, screenshot 3 pops up after 5 seconds.

I disabled the wireless connection, unplugged the router and plugged it back in, and then enable it the wireless connection again.
Still shows up "Not Connected".

troubleshooter can't find any problems.

I will be away for 2 days and cannot respond to any suggestions until monday, China time. I can receive messages, but I will leave my PC at home.
thanks for helping me out.

In this case, try something else on Monday.
Since you`re not requested for a password, you either don`t have one setup in the router settings (I doubt it), or you need to remove the WiFi from your list, and add it again.

Try this:
Windows 7

Go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center
Choose Manage Wireless Networks from the options on the left.
Highlight the network from the list and choose Remove

hey guys,

thanks for all your help.

1) i removed wireless network, and then tried to re-connect. Still didn't work...

2) I found the physical address of my network:
FO-DE-F1-11-SF-C6

But how do i know if this is correct?

Try to go into the router settings while connected via cable, and you should find one option that will replicate the MAC of the router with the one of the PC.
Also, after this, reset the password for your router, delete it again from your PC, and try to connect.

I ran into some trouble.

I went into my router settings, and tinkered around. eventually, none of my computers worked.

called up my isp, and he said my router was broken. Bought a new one. All the other devices work now, but my PC still cannot connect wirelessly.

Any suggestions?

Well, if you changed the password, all the other computers would need to be reconnected to the WiFi, because now it had a different password.
I`ll be home in about 7-8 hours, so maybe if you`re available we can talk on Skype or TS to check it our.

Thanks a ton.

It's about 5:30pm in beijing, I will turn on my Skype around midnight and wait until 1:30am...hopefully we can connect then. My Skype address is chengmichael.beijing.

Re: router: when I bought a new one, the ISP guy came and installed it, and then put in anew password. All my devices connected to the new router and password, only my pc did not connect wirelessly (although it does now connect by cable again.)

Talk to you later, michael
