No internet connection when connected to router

I have a problem with my router I think. When I try to connect my modem directly to my router, I cannot get internet access. But when I directly connect my modem to my PC, there is an internet access. My set up is modem > router > PC
I have tried the ip /release and renew but it didn't work.
