No internet connection

a while ago my computer updated and since then i haven't been able to access the internet. It keeps saying that the connection is limited. I have an asus tablet/laptop. I don't know the technical name for it but it has a keyboard that you hook into it and it has windows 8. A friend of mine said that maybe during the update my computer shut off so i need to download asus drivers but it doesnt work. I tried from two different sites on a different computer and then transferred the installer onto my tablet/laptop via thumb drive. Whenever it goes to install a message pops up that says to verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package. Please help i really need my computer to work again for when school starts!! thanks -meredith
