new hardware onto WIn7--can be problematic, as even it's USB/pointing device hardware is often not detected, making installation a chore, if not impossible.
Some of the newest hardware may not be detected properly for Windows 7...; you can try a simple $5 mouse on a USB2 port...(avoid any USB3 ports until chipset drivers can be installed)
