I'm having a really strange issue with my new Gigabyte X99 G1 Gaming motherboard. This board has Soundblaster Core3D audio with normal 3.5mm audio outputs and a SPDIF optical audio output. The problem is that the optical port appears to be disabled... there's no light coming from it and when I plug an optical cable into it there's no light coming out of the other end. I have tried installing/reinstalling the drivers included on the motherboard installation CD as well as downloading the SoundBlaster Recon 3Di software package but was unable to find any way to enable the port. WIndows sees the port in playback devices and I can test the port but I hear nothing. I've tried three separate optical cables which I also tested on my Xbox One to verify that all three work properly on it. Am I missing something obvious? I'm really starting to pull my hair out over this one...

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Updating this with things I've tried.

I tested the audio output of the 3.5 mm audio jacks with my headphones and was able to verify that they all work properly. I also tried plugging a mic into the mic 3.5 mm port and it worked as well. This confirms that the Soundblaster Recon 3Di hardware is in fact working. It seems the issue is specifically with the SPDIF port. It seems to me that this issue must be something simple like a setting that enables/disables that output. Anyone out there with this motherboard using the optical output?

Well I looked at getting a replacement motherboard but I'd have to send mine back in and wait for them to receive it then wait for them to ship me a replacement on top of having to rip apart and reassemble the computer. Not worth it in my opinion. I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and use the 3.5mm jacks.
