[SOLVED] No power to internal HDD on 2011 27 inch iMac

Recently my 2011 EMC 2429 Intel i7 27” iMac was showing the flashing ‘?’ when attempting to boot. When trying to reinstall MacOS, disk utility was not showing my internal HDD.

Upon further investigation I found out the iMac is not supplying the internal HDD with power thus the drive never spins up and hence doesn't work.

Powering the internal HDD with an external SATA power supply allows the iMac to boot and run successfully with no issue.

What do I need to replace to get power to the internal SATA harddrive again?

Where is the HDD power cable connected to? Is it to the iMac PSU or the logic board?

If it is the logic board that means the board itself if faulty yes?

Also where can you get the HDD power cable from?

this video will help but the procedure is too complicated so i wud suggest to take it to a professional if u r not too tech savy... and more so before that u need to be sure whether the psu is really faulty or not...

So it can be assumed that it needs a replacement PSU. The replacement doesn’t look hard.

Is this a usual problem with this model? Would it more likely be the power supply over the logic board? Looks like the power cable connects to the logic board itself.
