Put together my new PC tonight but can not get any power. This is my first build so it's likely i'm forgetting something. The computer shows no signs of life when trying to turn it on.

Here's what I've tried.
I checked the power button and where it connects to the motherboard
I checked the main power from the power supply to the board and it is connected.
I checked the switch on the back of the power supply and it's hooked set to the "on" position.
What else am I forgetting? This has to be something simple. I'm so excited to use my new computer and it wont power on! Is it possible that I have a bad power supply? PLEASE HELP

There's always the possibility but first let's try some other stuff, Did you connect the CPU HSF to the motherboard? Did you connect properly the case to the motherboard?

ok everyone thanks so much for the information. I think i have it figured out now. I believe the power supply is either defective or too weak. I unplugged everything except for the video card and main power to the motherboard and tried to power that on and the video card started to scream. I tried a few other variations and nothing else worked. In one case the heatsink spun but VERY slowly. Also the power supply fan would turn on in certain variations of the cables being plugged in. Finally I realized that a friend just bought a power supply (Ultra brand 600 watt supply) and tried that. Everything powered up beautifully. I guess the good news is that it's not my motherboard or a mistake that I made, but the bad news is that I have to return the power supply to newegg.
1 last question.. What is the best or quickest way to return the power supply to newegg and recieve a new one. Can I buy one tonight and do the return later this week? If i do that will I have to get store credit?
Thanks in advance.

The power supply is not too weak, I suppose you must've gotten a defective unit. In fact that power supply is one of the most powerful 500W rated units on the market (Most likely more powerful than your friend's ultra unit). You can return for refund within 30 days and return for a replacement within a year of purchase from newegg.

I know that this is a stupid question... But has to be asked. You did install all 9 standoffs, yeah?

when you say "installed the standoffs" do you mean just screwed the motherboard down to the copper standoffs? The copper pieces were already built in to the case. One thing that might be worht mentioning - One of the screws doesnt seem to go into the standoff all the way. It screws about half way in and then just spins w/o going any deeper. That can't be the problem, can it? It stands straight up so I dont believe it is shorting anything out.

The 8800 GTS should only have the 6 pin power connection, right? Not a second one?

I think i'm going to run up to Tiger Direct (they have a warehouse in my area) and pick up a different power supply to make sure that's the problem. Last night I quickly hooked up a friend's power supply and everything seemed to power right up.

Any other suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Must be my faulty memory... Last Antec 900 I had, the standoffs were in a wee plastic bag, and were brass. Matter of fact, the present manual seems to suggest that these still need to be installed. Maybe they are just slow to update their documentation online.

IFF your standoffs are installed properly, then a stripped out standoff won't be that much of an issue. Still, I'd get that sorted. Depending on where it is, the MB flexing might be an issue down the line. (ie,if its in any of the two top rows, I'd worry...)

You may be one of the very lucky ones to have recieved a bad Neo HE550 out of the box. Might be a good day to buy a lottery ticket.

G'Night...
