I have a system consisting of 8 gig Corsair ram. i5 2500k CPU in a MSI p-67A-G45 mobo with a Powercolour HD6950 GPU, a SanDisk SSD a XFX 750W gold PSU and a XFX R9 380 2GB which won't send a signal to my BenQ screen. My HD6950 will send one fine though. What do I do?

I know for a fact that the R9 380 is functional, as I've tried it in my cousins rig where it functioned perfectly. I have not tried the other slot, I'll give that a go.

Ok so the 380 does not put out a signal in either slot? But you know that the card works as you have tried it in another computer. It could be that your motherboard requires a BIOS update to be able to use the newer card as I know some of the 900 series Nvidia cards require updates on the socket 1155 to work. Check what BIOS version you are on and then check to see if there is an update. From recent experience this is most likely.

I take it you have tried to use the card on its own?

May I ask why you have 2 cards in the one machine? Is it for additional screens or folding etc? No reason other than curious 😀

I've only got one card in my machine at a time, when my HD6950 is in, it works. When I change it for the R9 380 I get nothing. I'll give the BIOS a look, and update it if necessary.

Regarding flashing the BIOS, the newest BIOS version is recommended for chipsets with the IvyBridge 22nm architecture. Should I upgrade to this version? The older BIOS updates don't do anything on my PC, primarily the 1.I version.
EDIT: Nevermind, after managing to use the correct BIOS update my mobo decided to freeze as it was booting after the update, resulting in the death of my beloved P67A-G45 (B3). May you rest in peace.
Thank you for attempting to help me, really, I appriciate it! :)
I'll now good look for a replacement, hopefully one that will be compatible with my new GPU.

Just curious, you did plug the PCI-e power adapters into the R9 380 didn't you?

Are you refering to the 4 pin adapters the R9 380 came with? If so no. If this would have solved my problem consider my jimmies genuinely rustled right now.

I'm not sure if leaving the 4 pin adapter unplugged will affect it to the extent that your PC wouldn't display, but perhaps an expert in the GPU area will be able to clarify.

Also, is there anyone you know with a rig that you'd be able to try the graphics card in just to make sure it wasn't a dead card?

I already tested the card in my cousins micro atx rig with a 550W PSU, it worked like a charm in that build-

Hmmm. What power supply do you have?

Edit: ahh sorry I seem to be skipping loads of info. The only things I can think it could be right now is the 4 pin connectors or your motherboard/bios doesn't support it.

Alright, looking around on the Web and found several other people with similar issues to you- all of which were fixed with the BIOS update. However, it also seems that this board is quite poor when it comes to updating the bios as it seems to be very risky and not always work.

If you're replacing your board, I'd look into getting the seller to upgrade BIOS for you if possible.

Alright thanks for the info! I will possibly be getting my hands on an Asrock Z77 extreme 4, did you happen to come across any issues with that board?

Can't find any compatibility issues between the board and the graphics card, but if the supplier offers such a service, I'd try asking the supplier if they can update the board's BIOS for you - just to be on the safe side.

Alright, thanks
