No signal from pc to tv

Hey guys, I am hoping someone can help me. My monitor blew so i tried connecting my PC to my 42 inch vizio 1080p HDTVm but when i connect through the VGA cables and switch my tv to that input,m it says theres no signal. IS there anything i can do? I ordered a DVI cable in hopes that works

Are you sure the monitor was the part that blew? Maybe the GPU is having an issue, or the VGA cord/port is broken.

Yeah im sure. Before i brought my pc to my fiancees house i had it hooked up to my sisters lcd tv and it was working perfectly but she wouldnt let me bring the tv with me so i thought i would just hook it up to my new tv

Always start with the simplest things. If you already haven't try power cycling everything (meaning power off everything then unplug it for a few minutes) check all the cable connections. Do you have a graphics card? and if so are you connecting the VGA cable to it or to the onboard VGA port (on your motherboard) if your output was last configured through the graphics card and you are connecting it to the onboard now it can be a bit tricky to get it to switch over sometimes.

It looks like that card has a small cable to connect the VGA port on the card you might want to check that and make sure its connected properly. If you have moved the computer sometimes components can get jostled around and lose connection.

Could it be that simple? Im waiting on a new keyboard and mouse to come in the mail today from FEDEX, when that arrives ill take my pc's side off and check and come back here with the results.

Do you know if the card i have is DIV compatible? and i can use a DIV dual link cable for it to get the mosto ut of my hdtv?

You mean DVI? And yes it is Dual link compatible. If you have the option to use DVI over VGA always do. It also has an HDMI port as well.

There appears to be a couple different versions of this card so the one i'm looking at may not be the one you have. Only one of them has the little cable for the VGA.

I have found a few different versions of this card all are named HIS Radeon 6670 HD but the part numbers for each are slightly different. if this is indeed the card you are using then you would have to have a DVI to VGA adapter to use a VGA cable and if the DVI port doesn't support analog signal then you wouldn't get a signal and thats why it wont work.
the site says its a dvi-i which should support analog as well

yeah im sure its the card, i ordered a Premium Full 1080p HDMI Male to DVI Male Cable 6Ft for TV PC Monitor Computer from amazon in hopes that would work

Oh ok. That should work you could also just use a HDMI cable because the card has HDMI out aswell

It would? i have an HDMI cord i bought from gamestop that i use for my xbox btu when i tried plugging that in and switching the tv to the right hdmi input it still said no signal

That leads me to believe there is something else wrong. either GPU or the TV itself. does the tv work with any other devices? (like that xbox) and do you have a monitor to test with. Open up the case and make sure the card is in the pci-e slot good try taking it out then putting it back in again.

could it also be that i tried booting it up with a bare hard drive? i think i accidently plugged my new hard drive into the main hard drive slot, which doesnt have the drivers for the graphics card, or anything, on it

Well if its a new hard drive there wouldn't be an OS either and you usually wont get any through put on a new GPU untell you boot up into windows. so you will need to either put the old hard drive back in connect to your onboard VGA port

ok this is a stupid question, but how do i know which one is the main wire that that will boot up the old hard drive and not the new one?

im assuming you are using sata drives on the motherboard beside the sata ports it will say sata0 sata1 etc... 0 is by default the first drive to get booted however if it doesn't detect an OS it should move to the next drive. i would connect to your onboard VGA and see if that gives you any output and to see what kind of errors you are getting. are you getting any beeping from your computer. you can also set the boot order in bios.

I dont have another monitor, i might have my friend bring his this weekend so i can run some tests but until than all i have is the hdtv

ok, connected my vga cable straight to my onboard integrated chipset, still no RBB signal when i turn the tv on. Could my vga cable have gotten damaged somehow?

ok well that doesnt really matter the computer should just go through the boot devices untell it finds a bootable device so it shouldnt matter what order they are in. we need to see the boot screens to see if anything is going wrong and the best way to do that is to get a video output
