"No Signal" Problem when Connecting Display Tablet to Laptop VGA Port

Hi!

I recently purchased a Gaomon PD1560 Tablet and am currently having problems getting the monitor to work. It connects to a computer using an HDMI cable.

But my laptop has no HDMI ports; only one VGA port. It's the Dell Vostro 15 3000 model , currently running on Windows 10. So I bought this adapter (Tendak Female HDMI to VGA Male Converter) so I could connect the tablet to my computer.

No matter what I do, though, it always says "no signal" on my tablet.

I've done some troubleshooting (aka tearing my hair out in frustration!) and found out the following:

1.) The VGA port on my laptop works. I connected another monitor to my laptop using a VGA cable and it worked perfectly fine.

2.) The tablet and its cables work as well. I connected it to another laptop and it worked like a charm. I tried the adapter on that laptop, as well, but the monitor would not display - which makes me wonder if this is an adapter problem.

Please help! Is it an adapter problem? Did I mess up with my adapter?

Thank you very much in advance!

That adapter takes HDMI and converts to VGA. They're not bi-directional.

So, what that adapter is trying to do, is take a signal from the tablet, and output it to the laptop. That won't work, as a laptops VGA port is not designed to take any "input".

You need a VGA to HDMI adapter - those will require additional power too (typically USB).

Something like this is what you'll need:

I can't follow the link to the HDMI-VGA adapter.

That being said.... what, specifically is supposed to happen? I can't tell from the tablet description.

Is the tablet to be a secondary display? If so, you need an active VGA to HDMI converter (not HDMI to VGA) as VGA is the "output" and HDMI is the "in".

My apologies Barty - I've updated the link (you can follow it here too). According to the Amazon page, it says it's an active adapter. I'm also assuming that the HDMI is the 'in' and the VGA is the 'out', but I'm not sure.

The tablet is supposed to be a secondary monitor, basically; one that you can draw on.
