No signal through HDMI-VGA adaptor

My TV monitor's HDMI input is connected through a HDMI-VGA adaptor to my laptop's VGA output. But the TV input detects no input signal.

VGA being analog you would need an active analog to digital converter to be able to use the VGA signal from your laptop on the TV's HDMI port. Basically you are using the adapter backwards as some video cards can detect the adapter and put a VGA signal out an HDMI port IIRC.
