No signs of life from new computer

Hi all,

I'm trying to establish why my new computer stopped working. I left it in to a repair shop so that they could build it for me as I had some exams that week. It worked for two days, but now it won't turn on at all. When I press the power button, there's no response at all.

I had used a few components from a previous HP pre-built system, including the PSU. I checked and found that they had used a cheap CIT 750w. I assumed that it had failed as it was two and a half years old, so I purchased a new Corsair 750GS. This hasn't helped at all. When I plug it in and switch it on, the PSU's fan doesn't start. Is this a sign that it's DOA, or is it expected behaviour given that the computer doesn't appear to be working and thus it wouldn't be getting hot?

What's the best course of action?

I'm tempted to just RMA the PSU, mobo and CPU...

If you are unlucky, the crappy PSU could have fried and took out your motherboard + unknown other components.

Failure to power up after PSU has been replaced or test is almost always a bad motherboard.

Just to discount the unlikely case of a board to case short, you can pull the motherboard out and put it on something non conductive with just the CPU and PC speaker (and of course power supply).

Use a jumper to turn the power on. If it still fails to start, its bad.
