No Sound

I recently installed windows 7 full version. I had Vista which was giving me all types of problems on my laptop including, but not limited to loss of sound. The sound shows it's working but it's not. I tried everything whenI had vista to no avail. Any ideas?

I want to thank everyone for their help, however I give up. just one moe question. undser Deviceb Manager when I click on soundit shows Conexat HD Smart AudioHD2. Shouldn't SPDIF Interface show up too, underneath it?

I followed your direction several times it would not install the driver, then it finally did a proper installation and went through the entire installation process. After the restart no sound so I checked programs and features and there it was conexant HD Smart Audio HD2 listed, however it had no size listed next to it. I know it was installed.
