This may be a lot of information... So I will try to summarize. (and after getting to the end ... this was a horrible summary... but does have all pertinent info I think)
Bought a PC from CyberPower PC in June (I have bought systems from them all the time with no issues until now).
Around mid-August... I had an issue for a few days where the PC would shut off the displays... and the fans on the GPU would go full bore. I would then have to shut down the system with the power button and restart.
I did some things like using DDU to get rid of the display driver... and I updated to the newest at the time. Still had the issue so I switched PCIe slots. That SEEMED to work I played many games... not many graphically intensive... some MMOs, Diablo 4... etc.
I think in August when this first happened and I got it back to where it seemed like it was ok... I think I ran Cinebench for 30 min and Heaven.... and I don't think it ever got close to 80C? Maybe 72C was the top (running HWMonitor)... so I assumed I was good to go.
No more problems... until mid-October. It went to no video and fans at 100% while I was at work. I did notice after rebooting the FIRST time the thing went nuts then in Oct. (I was not home when it did)... there was an event in the event viewer for the display driver crashing (which is also weird because I would assume my monitors were asleep/off when I was not home on the computer). There are some WHEA Warnings about the display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding... and and Event 17.... corrected hardware error... Component PCI Express Root Port But the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th times it happened... no such error showed up. After some googling... I have read it is either: RAM, PSU, GPU.
I did memtest that night with no errors. The next morning ... I had a small monitor plugged into the mobo to use (trying to test if it was the GPU)... and as it was just sitting there loading Discord ... I heard the fans on the GPU go sky high again. I didn't lose video signal since I was using the onboard graphics... I could use the computer normally. I shut it down before going in to work that day.
Another forum suggested I RMA the card.... which I did. While it was gone... I used my old 1060 and had zero issues. Ran several 3DMark benchmarks and stress tests with the old card in it. I didn't have another system I could throw the original card into to see if it was JUST the card.
When I got the "new" card... I put it in... ran more tests and benchmarks... ran Timspy Benchmark (12174)... did a few stress tests as well... and it seemed to be fine.
Happened again Nov 11... which was about 4-5 days after putting the card in. Now... they COULD have sent me the same card I sent them... I have no way of telling honestly. I didn't keep track of any serial numbers of what I sent them.
So now it is either the PSU or the mobo... or still the RAM?
Now... of course, I did more researching... I saw this thread on here... https://forums.tomshardware.com/thr...nal-can-still-hear-sound-discord-etc.3714488/
So I start figuring out a way to test the PSU.. .again ... I don't have another system to check it in.
I saw a video online of a guy who bought a second hand card and his card had bad solder
View: https://youtu.be/ULcOgS4nmx4
I even wiggled the power cord going into the GPU (which I guess was a bad idea)... and it made the card go into the "no video fans 100%" mode... but if this was a "new" card... it HAS to be that power connector (or PSU) correct? The cord plugged into the GPU is an 8-pin connector that is mid-line and has a 6+2 pin at the end of the cord. So I posted a picture of my power connector on a tech Discord... thinking maybe that 8-pin connector was bad... the 6+2 connector feels more snug than the 8-pin does... and the first thing I was told is that they could tell my PSU was cheap (mustard wire... yellow)... Again.. if you look at my system specs right from the invoice... there is no name brand... and from what I have gathered the last few days... name isn't the most important thing.. but even certain models of the brands are.
Something else I have noticed just recently is that there is a white LED light on top of the GPU that blinks a lot while playing games... it either means the GPU is getting abnormal power.. or it is just letting you know that it's looking for more power?
So I played Diablo 4 all day Saturday with ZERO problems... until like 8 PM. Played some this morning ... had an issue.
So I just said ... to heck with it. So I went to the PSU Cultist list. And looked up and ordered a Corsair RM850x (2021) I cannot guarantee that changing the PSU (I am not waiting on an RMA) will help the issue but I am getting more and more annoyed by the day lol.
I WAS running HWInfo this morning when I had it crash on me while just starting up Diablo IV.. so I do have that CSV (don't know how to upload here if I can). I do have a few other logs if those are necessary
So I am preemptively asking is for some guidance as to what you all may think I may need to check next if this new PSU doesn't help.
