I am troubleshooting an Acer AIO PC. It turns on, but doesn't display any video, monitor says no signal. The PC has an Intel i3-2120 Sandy Bridge CPU/GPU installed. My question is: could the GPU go bad and the CPU still function? It seems like it's actually booting because the HDD activity light blinks after a few seconds like it's loading Windows.

I did check the ribbon cable from the motherboard to the monitor. It didn't look damaged, and I did unplug it from both ends and reseat. Still doesn't work.

Try a different cable, if you're using D-SUB or DVI, try using HDMI

It is an All-In-One PC...is uses a built-in monitor. There is a small cable going from the motherboard to the monitor itself. It's proprietary...don't have any others to try.

I went back through this and you said the cable was a ribbon cable. That is a bit unusual for that. In fact, I have never seem one for the Graphics. I have seen then in the older computers that were PATA. Those things can be easily damaged. What is the model# of your Computer, I know it is an ACER? You may be able to get a replacement cable.

It is an Acer Aspire Z1620...an older model than what is currently available. Looks like this:

I was finally able to get ahold of Acer. They are sending me a new video cable. Shipping was 4x as much as the part lol, but hopefully that is all it needs. I will update when I receive and test it.

I have exactly the same problem with a Z1620 - did a new cable resolve the problem?

No, the cable didn't solve the problem. I'm pretty sure the problem is the LCD screen. The cheapest I could find one was about $200! The owner of the PC didn't want to put that kind of money into it, since he got it on clearance for about that price anyway. So, I can't help any more than that, unfortunately. But, that's the only other thing I can even think it would be, as any problem with the motherboard would cause the POST to fail.
