hi, anybody know anything about this fan? im thinking about replacing my cpu fan with this one i know its quiet but will i see any gain when its operating at 1800 when it comes to pushing air and cooling compared to my fractal r2 silent series that is running at 1500 rpm constantly? thanks

Noctua fans are generally a bit quieter pushing the same air than other fans, but most boards will attempt to maintain a certain temperature by using a fan speed curve, so simply swapping a fan with one that has a different max RPM will not usually result in the fan actually spinning any faster or slower - the fan speed curve will compensate.

If you're looking to quiet your CPU down, you're really better off adding surface area, so the same fan airflow will cool it more, and thus your fan can run at a lower RPM for the same temperature, or at a lower temperature with the same RPM.

On the cheap, the Cryorig M9i is a great cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4UF39E2338&cm_re=cryorig-_-13C-000U-00009-_-Product

For a bit more, the H7 is an excellent choice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4UF2DZ6565&cm_re=cryorig-_-13C-000U-00005-_-Product

What CPU is this going on? I'm pretty sure all intel stock coolers use 92mm fans, and I probably would not recommend dumping money into an older AMD system at this point.

problem is that the backplate is glued on so i im limited to a cooler that can fit on a lga775 stock backplate or trying to get a better fan on this to get it down a few c. the bios is set to go at full blast at 60 c so do you Think going up to 1800 rpm would make a difference to constantly running at 1500? thanks
this is a modded xeón x5450 running on lga775 im getting temperatures Close to the safe limit right now about 75 c under full load the safe limit is 70 c so im just trying to get it down a few degress best option would be to find a cooler that fits with the backplate but seems very hard to find any with good cooling for over 100 w

yeah very true i found a pwm fan that gets up 2200 rpm and it cools it down 5 c more and gets under the safe limit of 70 c but maybe the noctoua can do better . any other suggestions of 80 mm rpm fan that stays silent at normal use and that can go up to higher rpm underl oad with good airflow? thanks
