Question Noctua NH-L9i Removing only the fan

I just purchased a Noctua NH-L9i cooler and I need to place an air guide in-between the fan and the heatsink. The top fan area has 4 screws. By removing them, should I be aware of anything coming apart, etc? Probably a newbie question but just wanted to make sure. Thanks.

That should be fine, but why do you think you need an airguide?

Thanks for the info, 13thmonkey. I'm replacing the original Intel fan inside an audio interface and they have it designed as such where you need the airguide. Without it, the interface will throttle.

If you think you need the air guide, put the air guide between the case and the fan. Leave the fan mounted to the cooler.

Thanks, tennis2. According to the company, I do need the guide. Without it, it's overheat and throttle. I did similar to your suggestion.
