I have a pny geforce gtx 550 ti already instaled. I can feel heat above the card and i think the fan is running slower. I cant aford much so i'ma have to instal this next one myself. The nvidia site said a 750 ti would be a good bet for me. But my pc repair guy found a 900 model on amazon for around the same price. ...have i lost you yet? my head hurts.

Solution
The 950 will work with your current set up. It'll be a plug and play with the old PCIE 2.0. The short 950 is no longer then the old 550ti so it'll fit. They both require the same size PSU and both need a 6 pin PCI-E power cable attached.

The 550 and 950 are identical in size, power requirements, connections, etc. Get the 950 and plug that beast in already. The one you linked will work. Don't over think this, you're giving yourself a headache 😛

My pc repair guy i think showed me this link but i was thinking the price couldnt be right. I thought every thing above the 750 was outa my $200 price range as i recall seeing the 900 series for like $700 and up. this is the link he showed me http://www.amazon.com/dp/B013XFK0YO/ref=psdc_284822_t3_B013XFK062 I just looked back on the nvdia web site at the price listing... i dont understand... I have conflicting numbers in my head!

The 700 series is old now. Not obselete but the 900 series improves upon it with cooler temps and more features. The GTX 950 is the way to go especially if you OC it. However, you can pick up the 960 for around the same price so have a look around for that first as it's a more solid purchase. Either way, buy the 950 or 960. But, AMD GPU's are just as good and are usually cheaper. Look for the 370X or 380. Solid GPUs and cheap.

I have no clue what 370x is nor this 380 number.

...well this day is over with. I havent got a card cause I still have no clue witch one too get. So far I have come to the 900 series. I am looken at the 950 and 960 but then start to realize I have no clue if my mother bord can use it. I have a msi bord. I tried to ask them..i'm geting high flustered. How can u ppl sudgest these cards? I really dont want to pay the 60 er 70 dallors on top of a graphic card to get my son's pc running again but tryen to learn about this stuff in a short time span is gonna drive me to drink.
