Ok so please don't laugh but I have a Noob Overclocking question.

Im putting together a home rendering machine for casual rendering with maya, cinema 4d and after effects as and when. Its a 2600k cooled by a silver arrow in a zalman z11 with 4 fans for the air.

Now here's the deal, money is tight and i want my cpu to last as long as possible and only want to increase the clock speed when actually hitting render. Can i set up a profile at stock clock and then another profile at say 4.4ghz and then switch between the two (even if it means a restart). Or is it not really worth the hassle.

I'll also be doing video editing and will be getting a gtx 570 to help with premieres MPU engine.

Thanks loads.

Steve

yes, you have 3 profiles in UEFI (atleast i have). I have the 2600k aswell and as i learned on my own experience its not that easy to OC. The max with HT was 4,4GHz worked ok until some ocasional crashes ocured in weird situations (like idling on desktop i had a restart/crash 😛. Asrock had some presets for OC,4 Ghz, 4,2 GHz, 4,4 Ghz and ofc the "50 Turbo" ..none of those setups are good... "turbo 50" crashes like hell (even if the cooling is decent) and the rest are not stable even if the core voltage seems very high (as high as 1,38v @ 4,4 Ghz)

Thanks. The msi motherboard has an Overclocking genie but ive heard it causes high volts and then high temps. I'll be following the Overclocking guide on here so hopefully it should be ok.
