Is it worth installing Norton 2001 System Works considering the aoamount of resources that it uses when running in the background?

I am a big believer tnat the less utilities you have the better, especially when they have thier own agenda and it dosent always agree with what the o/s wants to do, so if you can at all get away with not using it hten do

Some of the features are very good, like Speed Disk, Optimization Wizard and Ghost. However, I would not load the Crash Guard or the Anti-virus (InoculateIT from Computer Associates is better and free to home users; easy to use and update, and is not a memory hog). When you install be very selective what you choose, and above all, watch the options and DON'T ALLOW ANYTHING TO LOAD AUTOMATICALLY AT STARTUP. You control what/when you want to run a program, and it can be useful.

I wonder...what is the speed of gravity?

As long as this topic is here: if I disable auto protect in Norton antivirus, does that free up my resources, or do I actually need to do the control+alt+del thing and shut it down all the way?

My brain has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down

I have Norton, and after this last format I didn't reinstall it. I basically have a new computer. That suite of programs is a very big hog. The virus protection is the biggest hog I've ever seen. I'm going to try that software recommended above...

My opinion to this is a simple no. I haven't tried Norton 2001 System Works, but I've tried just their antivirus. Compared to their antivirus programs from before, it hogs up way too many resources.

If you like little pie charts that show you how much disk space is being taken up and green bars to show you how much memory you are using, install it. You might get some oohs and ahhs from technically illiterate people, but then when they are gone and it takes you 10 seconds to open notepad on your ghz machine, (6 of which are to scan the .txt file for some virus that is only theoretical) or crash guard "helpfully" rearranges your registry, youll regret it. Ok this is an exaggeration, but essentially the answer is that it is not worth the loss of resources for the gain you get. There are some nice utilities on it, and if you install it with only manual antivirus checks, and minimal system monitoring, it would probably be worth it.

Yeah, I'm running only Norton Internet Securities with the Antivirus. Thats good enough. All the rest I can manage without. I found a good program called Window washer that does a great job insted of using Clean Sweep. Thanks

It's okay to install Norton but dont let it turn on any of the Auto protection features. In fact dont install any of the programs that are going to automatically start when you boot up. Even the antivirus software, I only activate it when I need it. Just be careful and screw the realtime protection. This can be done in the initial setup. Once they are turned on the only way to be completely rid of them is to uninstall the program. Norton is good but it completely tries to take over your PC.
