Question Norton AV full system scan running extremely slow

My Norton Antivirus full system scan is running EXTREMELY SLOW.

Also, my CPU usage is 99% when running a scan.

Am running a Ryzen 5800X 8-core processor with 32GB 3600MHz RAM and a 1,000W power supply.

3 possible options:
#1 System is filled with bloatware and it hogs the system resources, making the scan run slow.
#2 Your OS drive is dying.
#3 Issue with your AV program.

And I will add the suggestion to observe system performance using Task Manager, Resource Monitor, and Process Explorer (Microsoft, free).

Use all three tools but only one tool at a time.

First observe with the system running minimal apps. Make no changes and observe again while running the Norton AV scan.

Objective being to discover what all the system is doing or trying to do during the scan.

What resources (CPU, for example) are being used, to what extent (%), and what is using any given resource.

The scan, for example, may trigger something else to run - Check Task Scheduler.

Sometimes you may need to wait and watch for awhile until a change occurs. Just keep watching all the way to "99%".
