I just got a msi rtx 3060, but after plugging it in i realised that it required both 8 pins and 6 pins from the psu. I have a coolermaster 500w v3 power supply and according to the website there are 2 6+2 pcie pin connectors but i can only find one. There is only one more 4+4 pin connector, but im using 4 of the pins for the cpu and cant use the other 4 for anything else. There are also peripheral 4 pin connectors which are not used for anything. Should I trade in my gpu for one with less pins or is there something else that i could do? And where is the other 6+2 cable?

Assuming you have this powersupply, it does say that there are 2 6+2 PCie connectors. Both of them should be running from the same cable, so you cant look at one and not see the other.
Could you take a picture of your PSU with the cables? Post it on imgur.com, then share here.
Do not use any other cables for the GPU, other than the ones that have PCIe written on them, in other words, use only those 6+2 pin PCIe cables for your GPU, no other cables, or adapters.
That 4+4 EPS connector is used to power the CPU, not the GPU.

Get a better power supply

is it the coolermaster P500 v3? this only has 1PCIe 6+2

take some pictures of your PSU and connectors, if it´s the elite V3, there are plenty of connectors to plug into your 3060.

I just realised that i have the elite p500 v3 psu which only has one 6+2 pin connector. I guess i am going to have to downgrade to another gpu. Is there any way that i could utilise the rectangular connector that has 4 circles inside? Im sorry i dont know what its called and could not figure out how to use imgur.com

You were right i have the P500 v3 which explains alot. Thank you

Either downgrade to a GPU that has only one 6+2 PCIe connector, or get a better powersupply with 2 PCIe connectors.
That rectangular connector with 4 circles inside is called a MOLEX connector, and it is used to power smaller things in your PC, lets say a fan, fan hub, rgb hub, etc... All of those components that consume very little power. It is absolutely NOT recommended to use it to power certain adapters, like a molex to 6+2 PCIe connector, as it cant deliver the recommended power, and will most likely start a fire.

Thank you for your time and help, I will get a better power supply with 2 pcie connectors.

It would make a lot more sense to get a PSU that isn't junk than to downgrade the GPU all the way to something that can run on a PSU that is junk. A 1050 Ti or 1650 is as much as makes sense on such a low-quality PSU. This isn't even a real *400*W PSU in any meaningful way.

You're fortunate you *couldn't* run the GPU on this PSU. If you could, there's a significant chance that you'd either no longer have a working 3060 or at least owned a 3060 with a shortened lifespan.

Is there a psu that you would recommend at around 500 to 550 watts?
