Hi y'all, my wife's Zenbook is not responding when we try to power it up. Few things I noticed looking at it:

  • The battery charging indicator on the side does not light up despite being plugged in
  • The barrel plug is not snug when I plug the power in
  • No response when I hold down power

My guess is it's either the battery has gone bad, or the loose barrel plug is not making good contact inside and no power is being delivered.

Planning on bringing it into a shop, but thought I may as well try a few things I saw some suggestions in the pinned thread. Is there anyything in particular you guys (and gals) would recommend before handing it off to someone?

I'm comfortable enough to unplug batteries but I've never tinkered with the actual connection made with the power source, or played around with replacing one.

Chances are the motherboard side needs replacing. You can verify the supply is working if you own a volt meter.

Have you checked inside the power receptacle to see if there's something blocking the plug from being inserted fully?

Have you checked the power supply is outputting the power necessary to power the laptop?
Good idea - took a look at the receptacle, there seemed to be a little bit of dust which I got out and the barrel plug does seem to seat a bit nicer but no change in the state of the laptop.

I thought so too, I'll have to see if there is a google video on that. I've worked with building PCs but laptops seem a little less plug and play with swapping parts.

My father in law has our multimeter but I could try that next time I see them. Thanks! Too bad it's not a standardized input.
