Not Sure if I should Wait or Buy

I'm currently gaming on an old Acer laptop I've had since 2011 (I'm a graduating student in Uni btw) and I've finally saved up enough money to buy a new gaming rig and I've been planning on buying it this coming April. I've decided to go for the R9 390 since I've read everywhere that it beats the 970 in everything except power efficiency. The problem is I'm not so sure if I should go ahead and buy it or wait for a few months for the next gen video cards like the 1000-series from NVIDIA to come out. I really only plan on gaming on 1080p for now since I only have a 1080p screen, but I do plan on buying a 144hz monitor later this year. It would be really great to hear your suggestions guys. Thanks in advance! Cheers!

Its about what you want. Seeing as you waited quite a bit for upgrading I would suggest waiting for the Pascal cards. It could save you regrets later on. but if you want to start gaming right now you can go for the 390.
The 970 will fair well at 1080p 144hz for well optimized games like BF4. But the 390 will push lesser optimized games further. And if you plan on going above 1080p then the 390 would be best.

For 144Hz your going to want the most powerful card you can afford to get >100fps at reasonable settings. With that in mind its worth waiting. However do factor in that the next gen 970 or 390 are most likely going to be more expensive for a while until they are discounted.

Yea according to Tom's list on the best video cards in terms of performance, the 390 would be good for 1440p. But my question is if I should wait for the next gen cards or just buy the 390 😀

EH. debatable. id just go with the 390 for now and upgrade later.

The price would be a huge factor mainly because I live in the Philippines and the prices here are a tad bit more expensive compared to the US, but thank you for the input though!

Dude I'm playing games on hd 6850 and it socks...although I have the money to buy a new gpu but I'm waiting for pascal the upcoming gpu from nvidia this coming may....and the best part is that pascal will not feature ddr5 memory instead they are now implementing a new tech in memory domain called hdm memory which is much cheaper then ddr5 and also is much faster then ddr5....so say for the price of gtx 970 you might get 10gb hdm ram memory...believe me you don't wanna be left aside as it seems now ddr5 will be a long gone history after pascal

Thanks for the input! I'm definitely opting towards buying it buy I'm still having second thoughts mainly because I've been hearing so many good stuff on the upcoming Pascal cards from NVIDIA

Yeah I've read and heard so much about the upcoming Pascal and the 1000-series from NVIDIA, hence my dilemna. Is it confirmed that its coming out on May?

It's like may-June in between confirmed

Thanks so much for the input! For now I'm probably gonna wait for more news on the Pascal cards since I'm planning to buy (if ever I'm gonna) on mid-April.
