Not sure what to upgrade to.

So i built a budget gaming computer a few years ago, I've upgrade the Ram and GPU over time but the CPU just can't seem to handle most modern game releases.

I got a i5-3470 3.2ghz, anyone have any good recommendations for a CPU that does not cost an arm and a leg, I'm not looking for absolute top quality just something that will keep gaming at a steady 40fps with out constant drops.

have a GTX 1060 6gb
16gb ram
windows 10 64
and a 1155 socket motherboard.

3770 or 3770k is what you should get. an I5 of the same generation won't give you much more power.

Only other options would be to get a Haswell CPU and motherboard. i7-4790k and a Z97 motherboard would let you keep your 16GB of DDR3 at least.

And of course, outright replacement and upgrading to a DDR4 system.
