When does this qualification become out of date if not updated to w2k or
w2k3?

As far as I know, never !

Microsoft originally intended to 'expire' qualifications on a certain arbitary
date, but there was such a howl of protest they backed away from that plan. To a
degree, I think the current approach is the best one. Although the qualification
may become 'stale' if the person doesn't persue continuing professional
development, (which may or may not include updating the MCSE to a later version
of the OS) the fact remains that they originally sat for and qualified for the
title, so they should always be entitled to use the MCSE honourarium that is
granted to a successful candidate.

Stu, your NT MCSE becomes out-of-date, when you tell your interviewer that
your MCSE is an NT MCSE. It won't matter much, unless you've never stood up
a 200x AD domain.
