Question ntoskrnl.exe BSOD's - Believed to be either a GPU or (maybe) SSD

Hi all,

Hopefully you can help with my issue, I have been pulling my hair out with an infrequent BSOD issue I am currently having.

First let me get my specs out of the way;

- Ryzen 7 9700x
- Nvidia ASUS Prime 5080
- 32GB Corsair 5200mHz XMP (my mobo supports XMP profiles even though im on AM5)
- WD_BLACK SN850X 4TB SSD Gen4 m.2
- Asrock X870 Pro RS WIFI
- Lian Li Edge Gold 1000W
- Lian Li 360mm Rad + other case fans

Essentially, I am getting a variety of different BSOD error messages, although they all relate to 'ntoskrnl'. The BSOD's are sporadic, and sometimes its just a complete blackscreen, not even showing the BSOD, and it does not matter what I am doing (i.e. I can be playing a lightweight game, or watching videos on YouTube, or sometimes its just closing my browser).

I have attached a log of my most recent 5 BSOD's gathered by BlueScreenViewer. https://limewire.com/d/zTW7B#Elpq6AYueA

As to why I believe it could be either my GPU or SSD;

I purchased my 5080 and had it running in my system for a couple of months without any issues, I believe at one point I even had the notorious 572.83 driver installed without any issues (although I can't remember if I actually installed that driver or not).

I then upgraded my m.2 to the WD 4TB Gen4 drive I have listed, and did an entirely clean install of Windows (with Windows Bootable Media from a USB) , and proceeded to install all of my drivers and games and programs and such, and ever since then, the BSOD's have been occuring.

I have DDU'd several times, ran every basic check I am aware of (sfc, dskchk), and some other basic troubleshooting, but everything I've tried hasnt helped. I've also tried moving my m.2 position on the mobo and reseated my RAM.

Aside from the BSOD'ing, I am also getting some sort of 'corruption' on mp4 or downloaded videos of any sort occasionally, where part of the video will be 'corrupted' for a few moments, showing black and purple pixels, and then it will fix itself. only happens maybe once every 10 videos or so.

My worry is that the drivers I installed once I installed my new SSD, the 572.83 drivers, may have permanently damaged my GPU, as I have seen a couple of horror stories about. However I am also not certain of that. To note, I am now on 572.16, but the issues persist.

Any help in troubleshooting or potential fixes would be massively appriciated. I will make sure to keep responding to any replies, although testing if something has fixed it may take a while, as the issue is sporadic.

Since you're on the RTX5080, the latest driver version is 576.28;

As for the GPU drivers, disable the iGPU in BIOS, remove all GPU drivers(intel, AMD and Nvidia) in Safe Mode, then manually install the latest GPU driver in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

Thank you. I will get back to you on how it goes once I've tested it and seen if i get any BSOD's.
