ya really because life did not sound that great. my father said everything was controlled by the government. they shipped goods to every city. my father recalls that everyone from one city would gather when a shipment came and everyone went wild and grabbed whatever they could. even things like shoes people would grab them without them even being the correct size and they would use them to trade with other people. there were also many food shortages.

My father finds capitalism way better if you work hard.

ya i was just talking about my father's time. there is definitely that also.

That is exactly my point. You haven't been in the back and forth, so I'll summarize what I've been saying: capitalism is indisputably better, but it has flaws; to say that it is better is not to say that there is nothing better than capitalism.

Hey don't get me wrong, I'm not defending communism. Try to remember what we've been arguing about this whole time.

im sorry its just that you have been sending mixed signals and diving off into different subjects.

Oh, no problem. I feel like I'm getting yanked in different directions by oldmangamer, and I wasn't very clear about the slavery thing in the first place.

You just keep telling yourself that, I'll keep reading as I do everyday of my life. BTW, I just made a comment on why, I never said I supported what Nim was bringing. He's on his own with Russia, mostly because, I know very little about the subject. At this point I'm much more well read on China and parts of Asia, Mexico and the Cartels, and the current state of affairs in the US. I know limited amounts of info on North Africa, India, Pakistan and what is left of Russia and Eastern Europe, although I did keep distant tabs on the Arab uprising.

See, I'm not about to claim to know something I don't so please don't put words in my mouth, you have a hard enough time forming the ones in yours.

:)

Slavery is the best you can bring up for your argument?

Do you take better care of items you own that items you do not own? I bet you do too. That technically is a valid argument. The US does not have legal slavery today either. How about moving into the last 100 years of the US ans make an argument.

I really like your anarchist Spain idea. Capitalism is great when the government doesn't try to control it. I forget, what's an anarchist?

The problems of Capitalism today is too much government involvement. Not too much regulation, but being forced to make bad decisions by the government. For example, lowering lending requirements so 'poor' people can afford to buy houses. Those loans would be backed by two quasi government agencies - Fannie and Freddie. Well, we've seen both of those agencies fail. Why? Government tried to control the capitalist nature. It does not work well.

Another person who missed the point. I'm not saying slavery is better; I'm saying "people are better off" is a lame argument, because it has been used for slavery as well (by George Fitzhugh)

The big difference with anarchist Spain, besides the community government thing, is that the businesses were owned by the workers.

Did not say that. Please quote accurately.

Thank you. The important word is "everyone," which you added. It's like Germany in the 1930s. Hitler made life a lot better, but obviously not for everyone. The whole point of these comparisons is to show that even in a horrible situation, it's possible for the ones who want to maintain power to make arguments like "for people who have a job, capitalism is pretty good."

Then stop inferring that everyone who disagrees with you is ignorant or naive. It's a 2 way street.
