So I have upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 recently, and eversince my graphics card drivers stopped working. When I boot up my pc, it boots to a black screen and reboots after a while. I have to go in safe mode and delete the drivers, and then it works normally. However, I want to play games and without the drivers I literally get 1 FPS in every game. My graphics card is NVidia NVS Quadro 290. I have downloaded the driver installation tool for Win10 from the official NVidia site but most of the time the PC shuts down randomly during installation.

I also get the in title mentioned error:
C:\Windows\system32\nvapi.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc000012f.

I don't want to reinstall my drivers unless I'm sure it will 100% work, as I'm afraid it will then go back to the reboot loop.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in resolving the issue.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the NVIDIA driver.
- Open Programs and Features and uninstall anything related to NVIDIA graphics.
- Download and install the latest driver there is from NVIDIA support site.
- Here's a link you can use: nvidia.com/download/index.aspx
- Reboot your PC once the driver has been install and after the restart set your games to run using NVIDIA processor.

Thanks for your answer, but sadly this didn't solve the problem. I have done what you wrote, uninstalled everything Nvidia related and downloaded the drivers. While installing the drivers, the screen goes black for a while and then the pc reboots normally, except that my cursor is gone. I reboot my pc and the cursor is back, but when I check my drivers it still says "Microsoft Basic Display Adapted" and the games still run on 1 frame per second.

On that note, do you think it's because of Windows 10? Do you think installing Windows 7 will solve the problem?
