My laptop has started rendering irregularly distributed black squares.

These appear in certain web browser windows, and when playing certain games. When they appear in games then the graphics drivers fail and reset after the screen blanks.

Games that cause the squares to appear include all of the AC series, and KSP when at the launch complex, and X rebirth.

Other games such as DeusX: Human Revolution, Skyrim, and The X3 games seem to play absolutely fine.

Problem seems to be with the drivers of the card. Have you tried updating the drivers of GPU?

I use the Geforce Experience to keep the drivers updated. I have also uninstalled all of the drivers and software and re-installed, and gone through the 'clean install' option through the Geforce Experience.
