So I currently have a GTX 980 and 3 screens. Two of them are 1080p and the third is 4k. Right now when I am playing a game, my fps with the other two monitors plugged in is lower, the heat of the card is higher, and alt+tabbing is slow at times. Sometimes I unplug the other two for performance, but it gets annoying. My main screen is 144hz, so that's why this framerate drop is more noticeable. For example, in overwatch I get an average of 90 fps with the other monitors plugged in, but without I get about 110-120fps. I was thinking about getting a cheap R7 360 graphics card for two of the screens, and using the third as my gaming monitor. Would this work? And if it does work is it worth doing? (Money isn't a huge issue here, I just want better response time and fps as I am very competitive)

no onboard GPU? a GT730 would do it if you are just displaying windows (a passive one would be nice)

I wouldn't go much older than that, I had a 210 and a 580 running 2 screens, when I went up to a 970 the drivers seemed to stop supporting the 210 and it bluescreened at restart. So keep the second card close to the first. This is much more preferable than AMD + Nvidia.

The issue is that I need a GPU that supports a 4k screen using DisplayPort. I also have an FX-8350 so no onboard GPU. The cheapest Nvidia card that has DisplayPort is about $120, whereas the cheapest AMD card that would work is $80.

All I need it to do is use Windows, and videos. No games. And the cheapest GTX 950 on eBay is $120. If I can save $40 and still get the job done, I'd rather do that.
