here is a link to the LN2 overclocking referred to above http://videocardz.com/60923/galax-overclocks-gtx-1080-to-2-2-ghz-on-air-2-5-ghz-with-ln2

2.5 is about what some guessed could be done with extreme measures earlier. hopefully nvidia allows better bios versions so we can see some 2+ ghz custom cards.

this looks interesting as well. a 1070 built into a b150 mobo http://videocardz.com/60927/colorful-motherboard-with-geforce-gtx-1070-on-board non standard shape but if part of a sff build, could be a hack of an htpc/portable gamer type of system.

it seems that nvidia just did a good job of maxing the chip themselves. can't go much higher when they were already pushing it like crazy. but really 2 ghz is pretty dang high considering what we were used to seeing. the 1070 can get a higher % from what have seen but still caps out around that 2 ghz limit.

Well, 2.2ghz with unlocked bios on air is also really good, not complaining. It's just... 2.5ghz... a man can dream, right? 😀

anyone have a timeline when the maker specific cards for the 1080 cards will be released? i saw newegg put up the gigabyte one as coming soon, but was wondering if anyone new when its actually getting released?

my guess is by the end of the month

and the gtx 1080 mobile gpu specs have been leaked as well this morning http://wccftech.com/geforce-gtx-1080-gpu-for-notebooks-specifications-leaked/

slightly cut down 1080 with gddr5 and not 5x vram plus of course a lower tdpfor laptop use.

here is also something people have been looking for. an overclocking showdown of the 1070, 1080, 980 ti and a number of other cards. some reference and some custom cards depending on the model.

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/nvidia_geforcegtx_1070_overclocking/ overall everything being overclocked does not change the performance differences for the various cards. the 1080 is still roughly the same % ahead as at stock as is the 1070. but is an interesting read.

i keep seeing colorful cards and specs but then i check their website, which is as basic as an old web based template and just as slow, and they have none of the cards even listed or shown or linked to or even hinted at that i can find.

wish they'd get a clue and list the cards they keep showing off. same with a few other sites that keep showing cards and not listing them on their websites.

Gigabyte 1080 extreme gaming card info released today. teaser video from the product page

note it does say 1080 and 1070 so we can expect a 1070 version as well eventually. pretty sweet looking with the stacked fans. looking forward to a review of this card.

Hmm, I think the stacked fans would actually be a bad idea especially because they're spinning in different directions would create a kind of bad tornado effect because it would trap the air in the middle.

the video shows the middle one going a different direction. clockwise vs counter CW if i recall right.

i'm pretty sure this is what i saw anyway. might have been the product page that showed it but i'm pretty sure the middle one went other way.

anyway here is something many have been waiting for. here are some 1080 sli benchmarks. apparently driver support is a problem but they tested the games they could.

scaling was best at 4k resolution but it showed a decent bit at 1440p as well. below that is not much improvement. cpu bottleneck seemed to be the biggest issue all around even though they were using a very strong one.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/geforce-gtx-1080-2-way-sli-review.html

overall, sli was about 38% better at 1440p and 65% better at 4k than a single 1080. 1080 sli over a single 1070 was even bigger jump of course at 70% at 1440p and 110% at 4k. they promise better numbers and some xfire/sli comparison but for now just put these numbers out.

It goes the other way so that the edges move the same way. Let's say you want to propel something with two tires: the tires have to rotate in the opposite direction so that their outer edges move in the same direction.

EDIT: 110% on 1070 SLI? wow, that's some serious value.

that was a single 1070. only single cards included right now. they intend to add in some other sli/xfire numbers at a later date when drivers catch up to the cards.

and i see what your saying. at the point of overlap, they are actually traveling the same direction despite it moving overall the opposite way. did not look at it that way but clearly this was the intent. hence the "double the airflow" part in the middle.

Those 4k numbers are actually impressive enough that I'd feel very confident recommending the cards in SLI for 4k users, where normally I'd say SLI is a waste at 4k it shows good benefits assuming the programs provide even slightly okay support for it.

Now just gotta wait for the 1070 SLI for comparison.

The first listing for a 1080 on Amazon UK. (The Founders Edition are listed but who wants one of them?)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-GeForce-Windforce-PCI-Express-Graphics/dp/B01GCAW1IA/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1465228248&sr=8-9&keywords=gtx+1080

Not a bad price really.

I fancy the idea of a 1080 but I am absolutely going to let the facts come out first. In case there are any issues. However I worry prices may rise due to demand. No-one is really going to be buying any Maxwell after the Pascals are all on sale.

I was playing Doom today in 1440p with GTX 980 and there were times where it needed more power. It was 45fps once, with a shimmer. (Am gonna have to look at overclocking.)

That is still gona be insanely fast for a laptop. Still faster than a GTX 980 for laptops and it is in a mobile form factor, not a desktop one like the 980 is.

I still see the problem of battery life being almost nonexistant though.

Even my 960m laptop only has maybe 2 hours of gaming life on battery if that.

If history repeats itself, then that won't matter much. Typically only the big fat and bulky 17' gaming notebooks get the top end GTX x80s. Meanwhile the top end slim gaming notebooks only top out at the GTX x70 (like the ghost pro).

Plus pascal is more efficent than maxwell which will help.

Also, hardly anybody actually games without being plugged in.
