No i was saying that the gtx590 compared to the 580 you get better value for money

I dont know how much it is in the US but here in Shanghai the 590 is only $120 more expensive compared to a 580 which is around US$430.On the other hand the gtx590 in Shanghai is only US$550.
So one extra 580 graphic cpu would really be considered a bargain at US$120.

Oh yeah your right on that one. In the us a 580 is arount $500 so two of those are way to expensive. lol

[citation][nom]trandoanhung1991[/nom]The 590 uses less than 10W more compared to 6990 in AUSUM. Compare that to 430W, and it's small change, really.[/citation]
Right, except you're comparing cherry picked one vs card available to masses for month.

any idea whether water cooling the 590 might allow the clocks to be pushed back up again? That might make for some very interesting results. If the only driver for the reduced core and memory clocks was thermal/power then providing high end cooling might let this thing really scream...

Seriously, the noise?
From an engineering perspective, the AMD is the lower power card and is thus easier to cool. Harping on about the noise is PATHETIC.
From what I can see, the 4Gb 6990 is 5% CHEAPER as well.
Yes, there's also the powercolor water block for a LOT less than the water-cooled 590.
Both are impressive, fantastic graphics cards but seriously, the noise?
Let's for a second consider who would actually spend the money for one of these... I don't know a single soul who'd buy either. They're marketing eye candy so cut the nonsense and tell it like it is.
Where is the action? Good enough gaming. What's the best 1080p gaming card? 6770-6850 + GTX 460
I won't say anything above that is superfluous but it's not far off.
If you're spending more on a card than that, you're looking at obscene hours of gaming to recoup your "entertainment budget investment". Translation: Give to the poor and get a life rather...
I'll say it again, this is a marketing card because you're probably buying amd or nvidia because you aspire to having the ludicrous "ferarri" of all cards but know better than to buy one.
Here's me with my GT240, bought because I *can* game with it at 1080p with lowered details but it's low power for standby use (it's in 2D most of the time) and I didn't need to upgrade my PSU for it either. It gets hot here so these are reliability concerns.

I only voiced it like that because you're like 100% wrong in the initial statement. This is the real world, and real people only tolerate a certain continuous noise level before they give up and leave.

Well if your gaming on a 240 great. You prob don't feel the need to max out the graphics and that's fine. But there are some games that need 2 cards to max out and they do look great when that is done. I'm sure the article says they would not recommend buying one of these over getting 2 560/570's or 2 6950/6970's unless you only had one PCI E slot or only had 2 and felt the need to go with 4 cards. So they are saying based on noise they would like the 590 better but dont really recommend the card over other solutions. I would say getting a 6990 or 590 and then spending even more money to water cool then would be way to much in both cases for me lol. Not when you can get very close to that performance with 2 6950's for less and not need to buy a water block lol.

[citation][nom]Sabiancym[/nom]You can't say Nvidia wins based on the sound level of the cards. That's just flat out favoritism. I'll be buying a 6990 and water cooling it. Nothing will beat it.[/citation]

You must have missed the part where he said water-cooling for the 6990 isn't available yet.

Sorry, but I agree. My friend bought the GTX470 and I can hear that thing over the game and down the hall. It's a deal breaker. Thankfully, the GTX500 series has addressed this monumental problem. Maybe AMD should have done the same...

So... if I created a way to cool an overclock'd CPU, AND both 590 overclock'd GPU's, AND it was silent, AND it rivals water cooling temps, AND its half the price of water cooling, AND its half as complex as water cooling, AND its less risky than water cooling, people would buy it? .... I maybe.. sort of.. possibly... already did. :p

Perhaps AMD decided not to bring out an improved 6990 design due to the fact that the 590 doesn't outperform it. Still, it can't make them much money, so there's little point when you still technically own the top spot of the podium.

I never could understand the whole concern over power consumption? Really people if you are like me and have the money to buy these cards then you can also afford a high end PSU and never worry about power/electric bill.

Can't wait for a swiftech water cooled version of the 590's to come out so i can run those bad boys in sli so i can replace my 3 580 ftw's

everything to do with gaming pointed the 6990 was better, yet you choose the 590 because it can double as a quiet work station? not much of a crowd pleaser are you

If you are looking for a Workstation card, last time I checked a Quadro would outperform a gamer card hands-down when it came to OpenGL rendering and other details... so no dice, only because the drivers would not be "unlocked" to OpenGL increased performance. Well, check around for yourselves. When it comes to gaming, I guess the Quadro boards behave just like their gaming equivalents on the same chip, so you don't lose anything...

As for gaming platforms, sensible gamers would just buy two 580s or two [Radeon top single gpu here] CF or SLI them, and be happy. No worries about overheating, uncut or maimed chips, underclocked or overclocked gpus, because they just work, together or not. Even on air these cards deliver outstanding performance.

Cards with two chips have a hard time coping with thermal and power limitations; both showed it to some extent. They are the final solution for people that can't afford an extra PCIe slot. Otherwise, they just don't justify themselves.
They are just a gimmick, in my opinion.

As for running 3 or 4 gpus... you will face things like that...

Please tell me how to get a Quad Sli setting on a board that only supports 3-Way SLI?
From the Asus Rampage III Formula Specs:
Multi-GPU Support Supports NVIDIA® 3-Way SLI™ Technology
Supports AMD CrossFireX™ Technology

Two GPU's per card, and the motherboard supports three cards. You could put six GPU's on those three slots USING THE CARDS IN THE TITLE, but Nvidia limits SLI to 4-way.

I like how he complains about the cooling system. If we were to keep the whole "car" analogy, he is complaining about the carpets in a super-car...if you have the money for a super-car you sure as hell can change the cooling system; I mean the carpets. Enthusiasts who buy these don't give a damn about how loud the card is. It sure as hell isn't going in a HTPC
