don't hold me to this cause I cant re-find the review to post along with this statement , but one review noticed that the card they were sent to test did not have the same bios as the card you buy and after reading that and thinking back now on all this I wonder how true any of the review benchmarks are holding true to what you were able to buy ???

so was the cards sent to be reviewed ''fixed'' to do better then what you would buy due to that bios ???

Without a link to the review in question your post comes across as hearsay.

No idea! Here is a very in depth article on it that ends like this:

That's one way of wording it! Very PR. My take on it is "What did you expect?" If you didn't or don't know/understand what the GTX970 is then either skip 28nm Maxwell or buy a 980.

Yeah, looking forward to GM210B!

It's just an immature architecture, but I definately wouldn't call it junk. If I were in the market for a high-end GPU now but were unable to afford the 980, I'd probably go for the 970. It's still one of the best values out there, and it's nearly as fast as the fully-matured Kepler cards (e.g. 780 ti and Titan Black). Not too shabby if you ask me. That aside, I expect to continue being a bit disappointed by both Nvidia and AMD for playing "hide the ball" by not releasing its top-of-the line tech for consumer use. I'm sure they both have some VooDoo Magic chips that FAR OUTPACE even the 980 and R9 290X, but were just can't our hands on it. Whatever. That's just the word we live in.

Of course I follow your "bashing", you're an AMD fan!

It was also intended for 20nm according to the road map's, that aside the 970 is not a 980 and those "bashing" it or calling it "junk" because of that are just showing their true colours as trolls or uneducated in the way of manufacturing.

Man, you two really have it out for eachother, don't you?! :pt1cable:

I'd be more than happy to test any of these 'yet-to-be-announced' cards that they have up their sleeves...AMD or Nvidia.

That being said...both have done this for years. Why release your best, currently available tech, when it can be branded as a new release later and you can sell a lower binned part now as flagship?

I just see this as a non issue and I'm not the only one.

i HAD a gtx970 (zotac AMP! omega)last december, sold it because it was way too fast for dota2 @1080p and any 3 year old triple A title. turns out i have a bunch of games i haven't played on me old steam library.

i played mordor and contemporary games on it, RAM usage was around 2GB to 3gb because unlike any EPEEN obsessed folk out there in the 'nets, i used my actual eyes to check if going 4xAA upwards will yield better visual quality (@1080p), apparently it doesn't.

DSR'd 2xAA 1440p games looks better than 1080p with 8xAA, runs a bit faster too.

still had to sell it because it's way too fast for my needs. rocking a tiny 260x at the moment and most likely will wait for volta to hit the market.

Most people who bought the 970 got it because it's cheap and it's really powerful. And for 1080p it's really a great card.

I'm not saying nvidia is right no they did a mistake. But it would be stupid to sell it or replace it or get a refund out of it now, at least wait for the driver update and then see if it actually bottlenecks your performance or not.. I don't think it will unless you go sli to play 4k :/

First off I hope I don't have to go into detail about why the VRAM is doing what it's doing, because I didn't see an explanation to everyone about it before.

To throw some information out there:

I have a Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming Edition paired with a 3570k @ 4.3 Ghz. I run all of my games on a VG248QE which is 144hz @ 1080p. The only game I have found to go beyond 3.5 GB is ArmA 3. In the game I rendered 130 AI Entities in the VR world at beyond Ultra settings with draw distance at 2500 m.

Otherwise, running 110 or less entities guaranteed at least 48 FPS, and less than 80 guaranteed at least 60 FPS.
