Ahh fair enough, I'm quite happy with mine but I know there are other good brands / cards out there :)

980Ti then! 😀

I was in the same position and debating the 970 and r9 390... the 390 having more memory but public opinion was that it'd rarely get used. The 970 being newer technology with more advanced features in some cases...

The 980Ti is the best of both worlds for me. It's silly expensive (not a positive!) but also has a larger memory capacity and is wicked fast...

Actually in all my research, the G1 had better performance, even than Titan X, way better than the MSI, yet the Asus Strix is about 1-2 fps above the G1. And the G1 has coil whine, I just got mine yesterday and I'm having trouble powering it, getting an adapter soon, but it does seem a better choice, considering the price and the better cooling system.

G1 for me.

G1 is 1228 out of the box with 1380 boost

G1 in 980Ti has base clock of 1190MHz out of box.

My G1 Gaming can be overclocked to a 10% extra performance, while the temperature didn't rise above 76 while doing tests. The only problem I have is the 4770k which is dragging me down, although OC-ing it to 4.4 Ghz did get me a 3DMark score of 16500 on the first try (without overclocking the GPU). It does make noise sometimes, but you rarely notice this when playing or watching a movie that actually has sound.

Also, note that this score is above Titan X score on the same CPU as mine, in the Hexus review of G1 980Ti. I'm curious to know how much better it would work on a better CPU.

Both are very good cards. From the thermal point of view Gigabyte G1 card runs much better which is why you would see its temps lower than that of Strix. But, Strix in its own is a beast. So far it is the only card which has given a challenge to MSI Lighting GTX 980 Ti. (Check the review and benchmarks)

I can only tell my experience once my Strix cards will be delivered in this week.

I bought a G1 Gaming with closed eyes without knowing anything about it. After using it I realized how amazing this GPU. This can keep cool even in times of stress. GTA V 1080p Ultra settings and maintains 60FPS easily. Visually is very good besides that supports 4 monitors.

In my personal opinion is seeing many GPU Benchmarks is a great choice and highly recommended

Oki. My Asus Strix GTX 980 Ti cards (DC3) were delivered and ohh man, out of box these cards boost to 1392MHz without any overclocking. These cards have reference clocks i.e 1000 MHz but they have much more headroom for overclocking. I put +110MHz on core clock and +250MHz on memory (no voltage bump) and they boosted to 1512MHz. Thermal wise Gigabyte G1 is better. These cards run hotter. So, here is my recommendation: If you want to grab a card with low noise and best overclock out of box grab Asus Strix GTX 980 Ti DC3OC version otherwise G1 all the way. Though, having a hybrid card would do you a much much more better job than these cards. 😉

Enjoy.
