Hello! I just recently put together a desktop with some old parts i had lying around. Bought a new hard drive and did a fresh install of windows 10. Im trying to update my evga gtx 590 gpu but it wont update. Ive tried to download the newest drivers from the nvidia site. Ive tried downloading it through the GeForce experience. Nothing works. What ends up happening is the computer tells me to restart for the updates to finish. after I restart the updates do not take place. when I try to download it again it just tells me to restart again. Ive googled so many things. Nothing works. Someone please help me.

Okay guys! I figured out the problem. it was the MOBO. i bought a new one from craigslist that came with a cpu and memory. installed the gpu and i didnt have a problem. could have been a bad pcie slot. who knows. all i know is regardless the mobo was outdated and so was the cpu so i guess im better off. Thank you all for taking you time to help me with this issue and being patient with me. The fact is if you guys would have suggested all of these options i wouldnt have gotten to the conclusion that the motherboard was cause this issue. youre all awesome!

well at least we know for sure its only just the nvidia driver issue we have to fix. :D same error right?
so you tried the device manager. uninstall trick? and it still didnt auto install by itself when you refreshed? as suggested by @thepaladin?
why not just try download all the windows updates first. and try to do the install again. who knows an update will fix your driver install issue
you can also check on the Event Viewer logs as well.

time out!

When plugging in directly to the discrete GPU through VGA. the resolution is proportionate to the screen (the correct size) and looks just fine.
so it works fine at this point ?

When plugging in from MULTIPLE dedicated GPUs the screen either doesn't take up the whole screen or is not proper.
wait! why do you have multiple video cards in this computer ?
