(Right off the bat I'm going to say that this is a long text describing exactly what happened right before the problem I have occured(to give clues)and which stuff I tried to fix it. So if you're not really interested, the wall of text and length of the problem might annoy you)

So I have an issue about nvidia driver installation failure. I'm using Lenovo Y50-70 Notebook with Nvidia GTX 860M 2GB graphics card and this laptop had(might still does) a problem with nvidia graphics driver versions past 355.98. It would show a complete black screen when running a game and would either freeze the computer which would require a reboot or would require forced task ending through task manager. So for a long time I didn't update my nvidia graphics drivers including physx, 3D Video Driver etc. that came with the updates.

Lately I've been having problems with the Windows Update ( I'm using Windows 10 Home Edition so no Group Policy console) where it's trying to update my Intel Bluetooth and install a Nvidia Graphics Driver(I think it was the latest one 378.66) but the updates would fail at the installation phase giving different errors. It was then when I was looking at these problems I discovered the windows telemetry stuff and how it was kinda too much that I tried to disable it and while trying to use DisableWinTracking program and learning how to run it through Python I learned that my Temp folder was corrupted and a new BIOS update was released for Lenovo Y50-70 Notebooks specifically which people said fixed the problem with the nvidia updates. So I did a few things to adress all of this.

First used Windows Update Troubleshooter tool on support.microsoft.com and although it said it did fix a few thing and reinstalled a few missing files, the failed updates still failed to install. So I tried to manually install the updates. Intel Bluetooth update went fine but to do the Nvidia update I had to first update the BIOS and clean the previous drivers by using DDU. I had GeForce Experience 2 installed back then because I didn't like the features of the version 3 with requiring login. So I uninstalled it too to do a completely clean install. I updated to my BIOS (although the instructions said to click flash BIOS when the update was done I didn't figure out what to do at the time but the system restarted itself after the process and on BIOS Menu the new version number is written so I think it's fine) then used DDU and erased previous drivers then tried to install the new one but after the System Compatibility check it skipped steps(License Agreement and Options) to "Install" step and said "Nvidia Installer Failed" while showing the status of everything as "Not Installed". So I tried the older one again and it gave the same error.

I tried many fixes including locating possible remaining Nvidia files/folders, disabling anti-virus programs, using DDU in safe mode then trying to install drivers without network connection, hiding the windows update (the nvidia one), deleting and creating a new Temp folder(deleted the corrupt one in safe mode created a new one) but none of them worked.

I tried using sfc /scannow to see if what comes up but I got an error saying something like "there is a system repair pending waiting for a restart-reboot and try again" (I did, it didn't change anything) tried using "dism.exe /image:c:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions" command but got
"Error: 87
The /Image option that is specified points to a running Windows installation.
To service the running operating system, use the /Online option. For more information, refer to the help by running DISM.exe /Online /?.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log"

Also I can't see my nvidia gtx 860m in device manager under display adapters anymore + I've got one unknown device and 3D Video Controller with no drivers installed under "Other Devices" category(probably got deleted during DDU cleaning process)

Also I just a few hours ago found out(kind of like remembered) that some of my drivers were in disk 😀: like Intel Bluetooth, Webcam etc. and also an old Nvidia Graphics Driver Setup(although last I remember the driver I used and Intel Bluetooth driver were installed on :C: disk. So these seem to be the first installed drivers from 2 years ago but I thought maybe they might have done something, so I thought it might be important to share.

So I know it's a messy wall of text with too much seemingly unrelated info but there seems to be a relation between everything that happened and I don't know for sure, what might have done something that triggered another thing, so I tried to tell everything. If you have any ideas, stuff that I didn't try or should have tried differently please tell me. And also if you do think that I have to contact someone that has more technical expertise please give me links/suggestions (maybe contacting microsoft or nvidia, which I couldn't decide, if it would be useful or not since I can't pinpoint the problem)

Edit: I just tried a clean boot. That didn't work either.

Gave the same error. After a few seconds doing "System Compatibility Check" (the first thing/step installer does when it runs) it immediately skipped steps and said Nvidia Installer failed. As if something blocks the installer or there is nothing to install to. Do graphics cards disappear from the device manager menu after using DDU to clean the drivers?
