Until recently I was downloading the normal XXXX - international - whql drivers.
Then by accident I downloaded a driver that did not contain the control panel. It was either an Nvidia Studio driver. Or Nvidia have changed their drivers and it was a normal driver, with a slightly different name on their website. I didn't make a proper mental note of what the driver type was, but it was slightly different from normal.
Either way, since about three weeks ago, I can no longer download a driver that is not DCH. I get the XXXX - international - dch -whq download.
This is maddening because this driver does not contain the control panel. While this is how Nvidia is going anyway I think, where you have to get Nvidia Control Panel from MS store. Whatever I do , this driver leaves me without the Nvidia Control Panel.
I try to download it from MS Store, but it says it's already on my system. Meanwhile I can't get Nvidia Control Panel by right clicking desktop. Neither can I get Nvidia Control Panel to open from the executable in the installation folder. There are loads of pages on the internet that suggest fixes for this, however I can't get Nvidia Control Panel. Admittedly I have not tried everything, as some are very complicated.
The only way I can get Nvidia Control Panel back, is by doing a system restore. I have tried two new drivers in total and both were DCH, and both times I lost Nvidia Control Panel. Meaning I had to System restore twice in total to get my system back.
However what's off, is that I am sure that since I last installed a a driver with DCH in it. I can't now download one without DCH in it. It's like installing a DCH driver once has altered what I can download. Or more likely, all drivers have gone DCH with no Nvidia Control Panel.
Either way, it means a driver update will mean some serious fixing to get Nvidia Control Panel back. Does anyone have any ideas please?
This page does suggest that standard drivers are still available. https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4777/~/nvidia-dch/standard-display-drivers-for-windows-10-faq
