Nvidia GT 540M Vram is not working correctly

Okay, so after I got my laptop (brand new), the gpu inside is a Nvidia GT 540M, capable of reaching 1gb (1024mb) Vram, but, when I go into my BIOS, it says I only have 128mb vram. I can't change the value, either.

Anyone know why?

12g DDR3 ram
15.3" LED Screen
697gb NTFS HDD

The BIOS is showing the RAM allocated to the HD Graphics 3000. The discrete VRAM on the graphics card won't show up in the BIOS.

Is there anyway to increase the vram for the intel graphics card, for example, giving the card a partition of the ram so it will use that as well?

If you have dedicated graphics device and dedicated video memory you should use that and MINIMIZE the memory allocated to the Intel graphics so that RAM is available for OS usage. The only benefit there is to having the Intel graphics is your battery life may be better when using it rather than the GT540M
