Hello,

so I bought the Gtx 1060 today to upgrade from the 970. However, i’m not sure what the problem is - computer starts up and the fan runs for a few seconds then stops.

the gtx 970 has 12 ‘pins’ (if that’s what they’re called) and requires all 12 to work.

the 1060 only has 6 and doesn’t seem to work when I try to plug just 6 in from the psu.

i have two ‘ 4 pin’ to 6 connectors but they obviously don’t work. So i’m unsure what to do. I also have images of the psu pins? If required

Solution
i’ll check that site out, thank you. The fan stops after around 5-10 seconds, the computer is still running. There is no input.
Definitely some sort of graphics card problem. Try all the stuff I suggested and seeing if that works. You might need a BIOS update or a new motherboard (I'm thinking motherboard because of pins seeming to be the issue and they're typically what need upgrading when you upgrade something such as a motherboard) , not sure. PCPartPicker should pick up any issues anyway
Have you checked to make sure it is compatible with your other parts first? Use PCPartPicker to add all your parts and it'll tell you about any potential problems.

Make sure to also use the cables that come with the graphics card. And double check if these are in correctly as sometimes it may be a little loose (happened a few times with me!).

When you say "then stops", do you mean that the computer just turns off or just the fans stop? Also, are you receiving any input on your monitor?
