Nvidia gtx 1070 with pci express 1.0 x 16

Im kind of new to computers but im pretty sure my motherboard has a pci e 1.0 x16 and wanted to know if I could use a nvdia gtx 1070

It depends on the motherboard the GTX 10xx series needs UEFI bios to work with

What is full system specs? Motherboard brand and model?

If the motherboard is that old it probably does not have a UEFI capable BIOS and wouldn't support new 10 series cards to begin with.

Also a PCIE X16 gen 1 is not the best for a 1070. Theoretically, the bandwith on a PCIE 1.0 at X16 is roughly equal to PCIE 3.0 at X4.

What's more an older CPU would impose a noticeable bottleneck to a GPU like the 1070 (if the system supports it at all).

Probable better option is upgrading your CPU/MOBO/RAM and getting a cheaper graphics card.

I'm not positive on the motherboard or anything, I will have to check once i get home. As for the brand, all I know is that it is HP

If it's a prebuilt that came with a GTX 745 there's a pretty good chance the PSU isn't good enough for a 1070 anyway.

Motherboard tab says the manufacturer is HP, Model is 2b4b 1.04, chipset is Intel Skylake Rev. 07 and Southrbeidge is Intel z170 Rev. 31.

BIOS says Brand = AMI and version is A0.11, and the date is 02/24/16

Then it's PCIe 3.0, and will definitely have a UEFI BIOS, so no compatibility worries there. But as I said, there's a good chance the PSU can't handle a 1070. How many PCIe power connectors does it have? What is the rated amps on the 12V rail? There should be a label on the PSU that says.
