Hi all,

I have two PC's (mine and one my mate has just bought) they are of similar spec although his is slightly higher yet when running 3D mark or Heaven the scores are almost the same and in Heaven mine is actually higher! It's been a while since I built a gaming PC but I would have thought his would have got much higher scores.

My PC
i7-4770 @ 3.40Ghz
20GB Ram
GTX 670 2Gb

Mates PC
i7-4790 @ 3.60Ghz
8Gb RAM(faster clock speed than mine)
GTX 960 4GB

Both running Windows 7 Enterprise

Heaven scores
My PC - 816
Mates - 793

3D mark (sky diver)
My PC - 18563
Mates - 18947

All latest drivers and neither overclocked

Solution
When looking at the latest Nvidia GPU's you need to understand how nvidia names them. Consider the number as XXX. The first X is the generation. The next 2 is the class. A newer generation card in a lower class will not always out perform a older gen card in a higher class.

Thanks everyone that makes much more sense and PsykhiqZero I never knew that! I have to admit because its been a while I just assumed the newer (more expensive) cards would be better.

Last note about the different generations is the launch price, 670 came out at $399 which most people went with over the $499 680 that wasn't too much faster back in March 2012. 760 launched for $250 and was a little slower than 670 (less Kepler cores but higher clocks), and of course 960 at $199 launch and slightly faster than 670.

BTW: You should both be OC'ing as the GPU's just don't feel right until they are performing how they should. Use Afterburner. Monitor boost clocks during gameplay, temps and artifacts.
