Nvidia gtx 800 series laptops

With the announce of Nvidia's GTX 800M series, I was wondering which laptop would be the bang for the buck, since asus, msi has integrated the 800 series into their ROG, GT, etc. I'm thinking of buying a laptop with the 800 series, and my budget is $2,000 USD.

Also, since microsoft announced DirectX 12, would the GTX 800 series support DX12?
would it be safe to buy the laptop now or should i wait it out.

No one has any real idea on Dirextx12 Microsoft has said anything along those lines and neither has anyone else. we will probably learn more at the official launch at GDC. But the 800 are faster than the 700 series and use less power.

I haven't see any yet that have the GTX 800 series. Right now the top of the line is the GTX 780 and GTX 780 SLI.

It is the 800M series for laptops they have been announced and added to the lineups. For sale but I believe they don't ship until the end of the month

The new 800m series has indeed been added, we're going to start shipping within about 10 days (orders with 800m series in them are being processed starting on Monday the 17th). I would assume most notebook upgraders and vendors are going to be on about the same timeline 😉

For a good notebook with the 800m that is around the $2000 mark check out (depending on your desired screen size you might need a different model but because you mentioned "ROG" I'm assuming 17.3") the MSI GT70-Dominator-893, ASUS G750JS-DS71 or our P173SM-AS.

MSI's and Sager are offering 860's and 870's already. Prostar-branded Clevo frames are also offering this series.

maxwell is out in the USA all available or pre-order-able to get, for europe (or atleast the UK I know of) we have to pre-order them since new chassis have to be brought in for the new components.

have 860M SLI or 880M and money spare to get an SSD, blue ray drive, network improvement and whatever you like
or here's a 15.6" version that can do an 880M and have $500 to spare, though neither chassis looks very attractive, otherwise the MSI dominators are the way to go.

Remember that only the 830M, 840M, 850M, and 860M surface mounted chips are of the new Maxwell architecture. The other 8xxM cards are still Kepler and are still of the 28nm manufacturing process. NVidia is planning on an overhaul of the 800 series either later this year or perhaps early next near.
