im using a Asus Maximus hero IX with a 7700k unlocked proc.

im planning on getting SLI with 2 nvid 1080 ref cards.

Do I or will i have enough PCIe lanes to operate at full capacity or will it steal resources from my chipset to run properly. If so will i have to switch around my card placements into differently slots for it to work or change any bios settings?

im already currently using a NVME m.2 ssd samsung 960 Evo populating the m.2_1 slot running in AUTO setting

and my card is in the first top slot on my MoBo. please advise?

2 things to consider first..

1. Do you have a high quality PSU with enough wattage? Do not use a cheap unit for a heavy SLI load.
2. SLI is not worth it, many games do not scale well with SLI and some games will even perform worse than a single card.

My suggestion, drop the GTX 1080 SLI idea and get a single GTX 1080 TI instead. If you are just gaming at 1080p 60Hz then a GTX 1070 is more than enough.

For your actual question, I'm not quite sure but look it up in the mobo manual. But i think that an expensiv mobo like the Maximus Hero will be capable of running 2 cards in SLI as 8x-8x PCIe speed.
