News Nvidia keeping prized NVLink tech closely guarded — companies warn restrictions could hamper deployment of some solutions

Yeah, just what I predicted, only a weaponization of "open".

So I guess now a regulator or three should step in and provide some extra motivation, doesn't even have to be the full thing, ...yet.

A proprietary standard never marketed as open is not actually an open standard, shock! Who could have guessed it's exactly what it's sold as!

AFAIK there are no open standards for high-speed local (i.e. not some variety of ethernet) PHY interconnects. PCIe requires a license from PCI-SIG for any practical purposes (if you don't have a vendor ID, good luck having your device work anywhere!) or even just to read the spec! CXL is in a similar situation if you want to deploy a product using it. Synopsys HBI? Proprietary. Infinity Fabric? Can't even license it. And so on.
