[citation][nom]Tesla1483[/nom]I recall reading an article on here not too long ago about an upcoming supercomputer in Japan that will break 10 petaflops. So yeah, this one in China is gonna beat the next fastest by only 30%? This one will beat theirs by 300%. I think it's just gonna be called "K" or something lame like that.[/citation]

I remember reading an artical on this one. They planned to use ATI cards to start, until they could build their own version, which made me wonder if they plan to just make a knock off version of the cards.

"Yes it Can" , I started checking all the comments to see if anyone had asked "can it play Crysis...... :)"
After all the comments and articles, yes it can , has now become synonymous with the question " Can it Play Crysis?"

So I lolled my A off too.....

Now we'll all know what's going to cause the accelerated race towards the which nation melts the polar ice caps first.....
And now we know where the next Hollywood big blockbuster multi zillion dollar special effects movie is going to have itself worked on.....
Why don't they just give them the money and forget all the farce.....
Outsourcing cheap and domestic layoff's.... another addon for them at the price of what?

Well, this supercomputer has 2.507 PFlops of computational power, while the DC project; Folding@home has the power of something over 5PFlops (As of Feb 18th 2009)

Distributed Computing for the win!

I wonder how quickly we could cure cancer if these supercomputers were all Folding...

Sweet, so they'll have the world's fastest computer blocked from more websites than my world's slowest computer. Sure they can crunch data a lot faster than me, but hell I can access more of it than them. :)

What the article fails to state is that neither 7000 or 14000 or 50 000 could do the job alone. CPUs far out-perform GPUs in tasks where parallel execution is not an issue. And CPUs have many capabilities that GPUs completely lack. None the less - The benefits of using CPUs and GPUs together are obviously impressive. The power saving alone is phenomenal. I'd like to know what type of CPU was used.

[citation][nom]rohitbaran[/nom]Definitely not to run Metro 2033 at 50000x50000.[/citation]

Yeah it would be an awkward resolution indeed. More likely Crysis at 50000*88889

Everybody here talks just about technicalities well I'm sure it's hell of the machine. What I'm not sure about is – if nVidia is right to be proud of colaborating with totaliarian regime that is just short way from tyrany. Watch any documets about people that make those wounderfully cheap electronic of PRC that floodes world markets. Tiny salary they get for 14-36 hours shifts in enviroment that is parody on ANY! health and safety regulation is only diference between them and slaves. As a citizen of former comunist country I know too well that technology in them is not used for benefit of their people but agints them...

I wouldn't be surprised if this is being deployed for military uses such as decryption and electronic warfare knowing how dirty China plays without wanting to fire a bullet at least not on its own but who knows they are supplying and funding North Korea for yet another proxy war.

This wonderful system will be used to spread the communism, filter bad words from the internet and TV broadcasts, words like penis, gay, and revolution; as well as government; and replace them with "All hail Jiang Zemin!",and "Kamikaze the Americans!"

It will also boost local webpages with ads promoting chinese literature, and culture, and online games like online ping pong, and Go!
It'll inform the Chinese how they now have fireworks that will explode a toadstool above your house if your neighborhood has been caught either not working, breeding too many children, googling, or talking about refusing to obey the law.

The other part of this wonderful machine will be used to run simulations on how to bomb the planet (especially the west) with nuclear weapons, because they invented the evil in man (named "Play boy magahiines").
